APPOINTMENTS – WHAT TO EXPECT

After taking a recent history from the owner, a gait analysis & physical exam is carried out. Manually scanning the whole body will indicate any site of pain, weakness or dysfunction, as well as any compensatory changes.
Using manual techniques in the form of massage, acupressure, trigger point therapy, joint mobilisation, & stretching, will focus on the reduction of pain, muscle spasms, joint restriction, along with increasing the body's circulation & functional movement.
Electro-therapies include Ultrasound, TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation), NMES (Neuro-Muscular Electrical Stimulation), Pulsed Magnotherapy, and Phototherapy/Laser. Enhancing the physiological environment can enhance the body’s healing process. The chosen effects include vascular dilation or constriction, energising cellular activity, softening scar tissue, & stimulating endorphine release.
Rehabilitation dynamic exercises are carried out with the patient, re-educating soft tissues and strengthening their ability. This may involve positional stability, the use of inflatables and wobble boards for canines, and resistant bands and physiotherapy taping for equines. Individual exercise plans are devised for daily use between appointments & may include massage techniques along with passive & active exercises.
By building a stronger body, the risk of further injury can be greatly reduced.
A typical initial appointment may last 60-75 minutes.
