FISH CAKE FOR DOGS
Doggy fish cake is my most useful tool in training new exercises. The smell & taste is attractive to the dog, becoming eager to train and learn. The fish content is beneficial for the health of joint cartilage, a bonus!
Dogs may love this stinky treat, but too much of a good thing may be bad for the tummy. Use in training sparingly. As exercises are learnt, treat less often. Make them work for it!
It is inexpensive to make, and can be used straight from the freezer.
Lamb or Ox liver could be used instead of the fish, if preferred. I ask for a fresh, boneless piece of fish from a fishmonger. By gently grilling first, its easy to use the nutritional skin in the recipe too.
Ingredients
1Lb (450g) fish, flaked flesh, roughly diced skin.
1Lb (450g) self raising flour.
3 eggs.
2 cloves of garlic, chopped.
milk or water.
Method
1. Crack the eggs into a measuring jug.
2. Add an equal volume of milk or water to the measuring jug and whisk.
3. Blend the fish and garlic together.
4. Add the egg mixture and blend to a sponge mixture consistency.
5. Add the flour while mixing.
6. Empty contents into a well-greased baking tray or cake tin.
7. Bake at 180 degrees for 35 - 45 minutes.
8. Allow to cool down.
9. Cut into pieces, bag it and freeze it.
